The antique leather dressing shows its conditioning potential on leather that’s older than the 1970’s. Note that once leather is cracked there is no way to fix the leather fibers. Cracking and flaking is due to the loss of natural oils over time causing the leather fibers to shorten and stiffen. Oils in the Pecard Antique Leather Dressing return this essential requirement to the leather, allowing the fibers to perk up and prevent further damage.

Pecard Antique Leather Dressing can also be applied to new oil tanned leather to repel harmful dirt and water. This specially formulated blend of waxes includes beeswax and USP Grade Petroleum products. It contains NO animal fat or tallow, mink oil, lanolin, or neatsfoot oil. Antique Leather Dressing may darken leather a shade but not significantly. Not recommended for Suede or NuBuck leather (use our NuBuck and Suede Spray instead).

ANTIQUE LEATHER DRESSING APPLICATION:

*Please make sure the item is oil tanned and not coated leather. This dressing will not penetrate coated leather.

Using a clean, soft cloth or your fingers, apply the dressing in light coats. Allow 12 to 24 hours for the dressing to be absorbed into the leather. Apply additional treatments in the same manner until a thin layer of dressing remains on the surface.

Each treatment allows fibers in the leather to become stronger, softer and more flexible. If leather is extremely dry and stiff, extra care should be taking to not bend or over-handle the leather until after a treatment or two when the leather is more flexible. This will help prevent cracking or damage.

Due to the density of the dressing, leather cannot over absorb the conditioner. Dressing may also be applied to the unfinished side if it’s accessible. We recommend only one light application to the unfinished side, and that you be aware any nap that is present will be matted down.

Remove any excess dressing with a dry, soft cloth and gently buff the surface to a soft sheen. This buffing action melts the blend of waxes on the topmost fibers and helps repel water and dust. Apply follow-up treatments two to four times per year or as needed to maintain proper protection and lubricity of the leather.
