I bought this dressing to try restoring a cheaper genuine leather jacket that has a lot of sentimental value. I applied the dressing to half of the jacket and set it on a chair to dry. I took a photo on the third day of my experiment and attached it to this review. The progress is incredible and I am happy to have purchased this product. I have since applied it to an Italian military surplus full grain leather pistol holster from the 80s and it increased the sheen & look (as it did with the jacket), but more importantly the pliability of the dry leather holster. This stuff is awesome for my restoration needs.
I’ve had the same 6oz container of leather dressing for years and years and it’s dressed many articles of leather items that I have. Pretty much every piece of leather I own has been dressed with this stuff at least once and I love the results. It replenishes moisture and softens the leather up, making it more comfortable whether it’s a jacket or a pair of shoes. It also replenishes the sheen in smooth leather that seems to be getting dull from age. And lastly, it adds a layer of protection against water, which is always appreciated. I like that there is no chemical smell too. If you stick your nose right in it, it kinda smells like beeswax and considering the dressing is yellow, I’d assume the main ingredient in this is beeswax. I like to use my bare fingers to apply it, letting my body heat melt the dressing so I can work it into the leather easier and that seems to work great. I leave it on overnight so it can soak in and do its job and then wipe it with a dry towel the following morning.. I most recently used this on my leather Converse Chucks and they look better than the day I bought them.
as they say, a pictures speaks a thousand words.....I was looking for a glove conditioner to rejuvenate my vintage 1907s Rawlings Reggie Jackson Pro Model baseball mitt......after doing some research, I settled on this product.....as you can see in the photos, my 1970s mitt was literally brought back to life.......I highly Recommend this product.......easy to apply and clearly rejuvenates leather like no other product i have ever used......
Brought a 1906 WWI German bayonet scabbard back to life. Before I treated it, the leather was brown, cracking dry and inflexible. After 2-3 treatments over the course of a week it has been brought to museum quality and I can safely unsheathe the bayonet with worrying about destroying the leather.
Quality leather boots turn out beautiful. Great product, well made, and manufactured right here on American soil in Green Bay, WI. Doesn't get much better than that.
Every now and then a product surprises and delights, like when you discover some home remedy that actually works for shiny hair or dyspepsia, right? Well I have to say I am extremely happy I found this leather restorative. Our leather furniture of many years has taken a beating and way too much sun. It was dry, faded, uneven colors, abused. Bought this Pecard Antique Leather Dressing on blind faith, used a lot of elbow grease, and was honestly bowled over by the results. (Photos attached, I could immediately see I'd have to document the results.)Exhibit A: The armchair. The top surface was very much like the very light, faded area shown on the inside -- are you amazed yet? The darker half towards the front (showing contrast) is the first application of the PALD.Exhibit B: The couch. OMG. We were ready to take it out back and shoot it. First picture shows two cushions, the cushion on the left having been the most sun damaged, desperately dried out, now post treatment. It looked as bad or worse as the one on the right before I massaged it with Pecard ALD. Seriously! Now regardez the interim application to the cushion on the right, and then the "after." The two cushions aren't the exact same color, due to usage, but -- what a difference.FYI I'm an actual couch potato, and these are actual photos. Highly recommend this product.
This is the absolute best for old leather. I don’t think I’ll use anything else on older (pre-loved Louis Vuittons) from now on. It works on really dried out (as in cardboard dry) leather. The trick is to not flex it too much when it’s cracked and dry. Just put this stuff on over time, and when the leather seems to be softening up, then it’s okay to use. It won’t be like new, it will still have cracks, but it will be okay unless it’s broken into two, then it’s probably beyond conditioning and needs replacing. I used this on an old keepall with dried vachetta and it works. I can use the bag. It’s a little darker at first and then lightens up, it has an odor like crisco lol I don’t worry about it snapping into two pieces. I have actively used the bag for travel and it’s fine. It’s good to put this stuff on periodically, to retain the moisture. I also use it on a backpack and it improved the dryness immensely. It can also be used on patent leather and it even takes away some of the stickiness.
This (Pecard 32oz Leather Dressing) is a great product to use on just about any finished leather item. I most often use it on my leather shoes to hide scuffs and wear and protect from the wet and winter salt. It darkens the leather a little but makes them look almost new when done! I use it every week and can not remember the last time I used polish. I use to have to buy a new pair of leather shoes for work every year; right after winter ended as the ice, snow, wear and salt of the season took its toll. Now I'm able to keep those shoes working! I stopped using mink oil as I discovered that mold is attracted to the natural product (when I found a pair of leather shoes stored away had green fuzz all over it!) I was a fan of mink oil for a decade or more; but after a few years of using this product I have thrown my mink oil away as this simply works better and does not run the risk of mold. PS: I have purchased a few of the vintage Pecard Tins online or when found in the vintage stores. I refill them from this super-sized container for that retro look and feel. See Images.
Been using since the late 60’s on baseball gloves, belts, gun holsters ect. Just rub on thin coat leave overnight buff out looks great. It will darken a baseball glove slightly. I use it on my Galco an Bianchi holsters (outside) keeps them lookin great!!
I cleaned out an old family home. Among the trash were many old treasures. One was an old rocking chair which had been painted yellow. It turned out to be handmade with a leather seat with brass tacks. I followed used Pecard's antique leather dressing as directed from their website. I have gently applied 3 thin coats with a soft rag and it is looking 100% better. I am going to add one more before buffing it out. Love this product! If you have any questions the company will be glad to answer your quetions!
Easy application and overall great look when completed. Made wallets out of old baseball gloves..... brought them back to life!
This works exactly like described. I had a barn find of an old doctors style suitcase/bag, it was dried, brittle and dirty. Cleaning was separate. But the restoration went well. 4 coats of application was all I could apply before Christmas arrived and I had to pack the present. Don't underestimate the labor to restore a large item. It worked so well I am thinking about buying a old bag for me to restore. It was a pleasure to see the life come back into something old and of unique character. The leather looked fresh again and was flexible. I thought it was expensive but it works and the ratings are earned. You get what you pay for.
Great leather product for my Rocky boots. Also used for conditioning my new leather pistol holster. I finally ran out of Pecard's. I had a large can that my father had purchased in the 60's.
Still working on a 45 year old can given to me by my father who had an extra. Still good as new. You don’t need much and you don’t need to use it often. It is the best leather dressing I’ve ever used. It weatherproofs and waterproofs. Glad to see Pecard is still going strong.
Very happy with this stuff. Smells like honey because of the beeswax content, that was a nice first impression when I opened it. Other leather conditioners/dressings I have used in the past had strong chemical smells and I really like how natural and simple this stuff is. I bought a very nice handmade vegetable tanned leather belt that I LOVE and wanted to take care of it, plus the edges weren't slicked/burnished to my liking and after reading about it I figured I'd try to clean up the edges myself. I got this today and rubbed the surface with a light coat and then went to work on the edges. It was a quick and easy job as this stuff instantly made a huge difference, I repeated a couple coats and rubbed down the edges to a nice slick/burnished look. I am super happy with it and this tub is larger than I expected. I wasn't sure what 6oz of it would really look like but it was only $3 more than the 2.5oz and had prime shipping so I figured why not, but based on how much I liberally applied today I barely put a dent into it. I expect this to last me pretty much forever as I don't really own much leather but I will definitely be using this on any leather I have it is GREAT!.I attached a before and after picture so you can see how nice it cleaned up the edge, it also really brought out the nice natural leather color in the belt. I love the look of natural undyed vegetable tanned leather and I really like how this beeswax based dressing shined it up, and it will really help protect my nice belt for years to come.I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a good leather dressing, I mean come on they've been around since 1902! You don't stay in business that long by being sub-par! Go ahead and grab a 6oz tub it will last forever and you will be very pleased, much better than gross smelling chemical alternatives. 5 stars!
I bought this to use on my 1940s Kit Karson horsehide jacket as the shop that I bought it from use it all the time. I have used it and it is an excellent product, although it is quite expensive, it seems that it will last a long time.
I have an old biker jacket I bought off a friend that has seen better days. Based on the Wilsons Leather neck tag, it's probably from the 90s and it seemed to have been neglected before I owned it, with some cracking starting to occur in spots. Not wanting to drop a couple hundred dollars on a new jacket, I decided to revive it instead so I did some online research and landed at this product. I saddle soaped to clean it first and then began with the Pecard. I was expecting this to have some kind of smell but it was really very subtle to the point that I didn't smell anything unless I put it to my nose and sniffed. It actually smells a lot like bees wax, which I believe to be a main ingredient in this based on the smell and color. Anyway, like many other reviewers, I used my fingers to work the dressing into the leather, using the heat to melt it into an oil as I rubbed. I let it absorb overnight and I buffed the jacket twice with two clean rags until it was no longer greasy. The result? It did a great job putting some life back into the jacket as far as restoring color and sheen but what most impressed me was the feel of the jacket. Less than 24 hours after application, it no longer felt stiff and dry. The oils rehydrated the leather, making it supple and soft again and allowing me to easily bend my arms where there was the most resistance.I also tried this product on a pair of nice lamb skin gloves but they seem to have a tacky feel to them now, even after buffing. Perhaps soft dress leather isn't the best for this product. Again, they restored color but I'm really hoping those return to its normal feel.I like that this is made in the USA, made of natural ingredients, and contains no lanolin or animal fat unlike mink oil, yet still gives the jacket water resistant properties
I have a 4 year old motorcycle jacket that sees regular use. I had never treated it with anything, and it was beginning to show in a big way. Through some internet searches, I came across the Pecard brand and decided to give it a try. Over the years I have tried countless products on saddles, boots, belts, etc....but have never really been impressed. That all changed with Pecard Leather Dressing. As suggested, I started in an inconspicuous spot. From there I massaged this into the entire jacket with my fingers. I think the heat from your hands helps it absorb better. Around the colored stitching and cream colored leather I first used the leather lotion to clean, then applied the leather dressing. The next morning I buffed it out with a soft shoe brush. The results were perfect. I cant imagine getting this good of results from the dry cleaner. Curiosity got the best of me and I sprayed water on the treated jacket. Ran right off. No spots then or 24 hours later. No residual to touch. No noticeable smell after a couple hours. This stuff is the real thing!
Excellent product for leather care! Excellent company! Delivery was very quick!
I never used a product like Antique Leather Car. It is a great product. Other companies use beeswax in the product, it's over done very sticky Antique Leather Dressing has just enough of beeswax in there product. I am very impressed with the way my Leather jackets turn out. This the best leather dressing I have ever used. Thank you Pecard for having a winning product.
